Preparing for guests, so we thought they might like a door on the bathroom. Poplar molding will make a nice door casing. And maple trim will make a nice frame for both sides of the plywood door panel. We are making a true eartship style door using plywood for the inner core and scrap wood materials to make it pretty. Also, since the door will have a fair amount of hardwood on both sides, we decided to scrimp on the plywood and got 11/32" think plywood so it is a little flimsy - but nothing we cannot fix by making a sturdy frame out of the maple scraps.
One side of the door complete, now to start the other side.
Both sides now completed, a little wood glue mixed with saw dust to finish off the mitered corners.
A little sanding to sand down the glue.
Next, tongue oil to make the maple pop! We used all natural tung oil cut with 50% citrus (had to order this online since the tung oil they sell in the big box stores cuts the product with mineral oil). The citrus oil/tung oil mixture came from MilkPaint.com and is food safe (not that I plan to eat off the doors).
